About us

Conductor Derek Williams with Violinist Rob Rosa
Welcome

to the newest orchestra in the East Midlands. Players will be drawn from as far afield as Matlock and Grantham and all points in between. They are all linked by a common factor – to play the classical repertoire written for a Chamber Orchestra to as high a standard as possible. Many of the musicians will play in other orchestras, sometimes being paid for their expertise but they all have a shared desire to play the Symphonies of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Mendelssohn. Once established, we may branch out into more modern repertoire with the likes of Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony and Stravinsky’s Pulcinella.

The Artistic Director and driving force behind this new project is Derek Williams, Music Director of Nottingham Symphony Orchestra and former MD of Nottingham Youth Orchestra until his retirement in 2013. Derek approached Rob Rosa to be the leader of the Trent Chamber Orchestra. They have worked together on other projects over the years and are excited to see where this new venture will take them.

Our vision

As well as sharing the delights of playing this repertoire with like-minded musicians, we all share a desire to introduce Classical Music to children and to encourage them to play an instrument to as high a standard as possible. Some cannot afford to buy an instrument or to pay for lessons. In time, we shall build up a fund to pay for lessons and an instrument. At a later date there will be an opportunity to contribute to this fund. Donors would become Silver, Gold or even Platinum members of TCO depending on their level of contribution.

Many of our orchestral members are teachers of their instruments. Those applying to the TCO Fund for free lessons will be monitored as to their progress. A few years ago, one of the top schools for music in the Midlands with an unmatched standard of their Concert Band, provided free instrumental lessons for their pupils....unless they missed a rehearsal. In which case they had to pay for their next lesson!  That is the sort of commitment we are looking for.
